In the world of vintage American side x sides, Parker
Brothers reigns supreme. The Parker name
is synonymous with classic upland double guns.
The Parker Gun Collectors Association has done a great job fostering
knowledge on these fine guns, which many believe to be America’s finest. The GH Grade is the first level of Parker
with game scene engraving with only 990 made in 20ga. with Parker Special Steel
barrels, and only about 650 made with ejectors.
There are likely less than 600 GHE 20ga. Parkers left on the
planet. This fine Parker, sn201639 made in 1923, is a very nice example with
some exceptional features that most double gunners love to see, ie lightweight
at 6lbs. 3oz, 28” Parker Special Steel barrels with nice bores and 100% rust
blue, factory bore diameter, plenty of wall thickness (see specs below
paragraph) beautiful clear, sharp engraving showing on a naturally worn
receiver, figured wood with excellent modern dimensions, and a vintage Hawkins
pad. The lettering and engraving are
still strong, and the screws are all in superb condition and clocked properly
along the axis of the gun. Barrels have
tight ribs and fit tight as new on the breech face with the top lever well
right of center. The triggers are crisp
and break clean at about 4.5lbs. of pull.
There are few 20ga. Parkers with 28” Parker Special Steel barrels that
weigh less than 6 1/2lbs. For the upland
hunter, a gun at 6lbs. 3oz. is preferred by most. This is a VFI CERTIFIED GUN
and we have a 90-day mechanical warranty on all such guns we sell. We stripped the action and forend iron to the
smallest part, cleaned the parts in the Ultrasonic cleaner, inspected all for
function and integrity, lubricated and reassembled the gun (a $325 service that
should be performed each 10 years). We
did not case color the receiver as some people like them natural as it shows
the engraving better. We can have
Turnbull case colors on the gun within 6 weeks for an added cost and the gun
would look like new. I like her just the
way she is, as the engraving is very attractive with the naturally worn
receiver. This Parker balances on the
hinge pin and feels amazing in hand.
What a gorgeous investment quality Parker for your upcoming fall hunts
and just in time for you to enjoy at your favorite gun club for some clay
targets to warm you up for the season.
Priced to sell, so don’t hesitate or she will be gone. Thanks for looking!
