General Specs: Fox, Year 1910, 12 Gauge, 7lbs 7oz, Chokes M/F, LOP 14 9/16", DAH 2 5/8", DAC 1 7/16"
Serial Number: 17778

The C Grade Fox is considered one of the most handsome of the A.H. Fox Graded guns, with its finely cut English scroll, game scene engraving, nicely engraved trigger guard, and European walnut figured well on both sides of the stock.  Many guns offered for sale today lack information on which to base a decision.  A shotgunner should want to know specifics…stock dimensions, choke constrictions, minimum wall thicknesses, weight, balance point, trigger pulls…in addition to viewing photos.  In most ads the photos show no real details of the gun.  Don’t you want to know what you are buying?  A lot of bad things happen to vintage guns over time, and most offered for sale at low prices have poor stock dimensions (making them impossible to shoot well for most shooters) amateur repairs, poor restorations, and even cut barrels and stocks.  Making wise decisions requires adequate information.  This fine Fox CE Grade was made when Ansley himself was in full charge and doing the final inspection of guns himself.  Made in 1910, serial number 17778 has all the internal parts highly polished, the engraving is deep and expertly cut (noticeably superior to later guns), the wood was specified as “extra nice stock” and was well figured on both sides, and the barrels were finely struck.  The factory order card for this gun shows the gun was shipped just as you see it now, with original barrel length, chokes, weight, stock dimensions, and yes, even the pad is noted on the order card (we dressed up the look of the gun by adding a $650 leather covered pad…the old one was hard and mushroomed, the new one is far more visually pleasing).  The wood, checkering, barrels, and trigger guard have been expertly restored to historical correct finishes; rust blued barrels, charcoal blue trigger guard, and a fine hand-rubbed oil finish on the stocks.  The checkering is superb, the screws near perfect, and the stock has very modern stock dimensions with 14 ½” LOP from the factory.  The 30” No. 3 weight Krupp Steel barrels have excellent bores, tight ribs, factory bore diameter, lots of wall thickness (see specs in tables below), and are tight as new on the hinge pin and breech face and are choke M/F.  Clients in today’s world shoot these guns in the field and at the traps, and this gun is mechanically excellent in all ways. THIS IS A “VFI CERTIFIED GUN”, meaning we stripped the forend iron and receiver to the smallest parts, ran it through the Ultrasonic cleaner, inspected all parts for integrity and function, then lubricated and reassembled (a $375 service).  VFI CERTIFIED guns carry a 90-day mechanical warranty.  We have lengthened the chambers to 2 ¾” and extended the taper of the forcing cones from 5/8” to 1 ½” taper making the gun shoot softer and have better patterns with today’s readily available modern loads, as short shells are near impossible to find now (a $360 service).  YOU CANNOT COMPARE THIS FOX TO OTHER FOX GUNS THAT HAVE BEEN NEGLECTED FOR DECADES.  NO MORE MONEY NEEDS TO BE SPENT.  THE GUN IS SUPERB IN ALL WAYS.   What a great gun for upland game and vintage sporting clays events.  We can alter the chokes if you wish within a few days of purchase.  Fox guns with English grips are few and far between, so if you like straight stocks you would be hard pressed to find a better Fox CE Grade gun.  With the cost of restoring a fine gun properly and a wait time of over a year, buying this gun avoids both added expenses and time waiting for your gun to come back.  Finding Fox guns built under direct supervision of Ansley Herman Fox himself is a definite plus.  Don’t miss out on this opportunity and thanks for looking at our guns!
