Ask any collector of fine German shotguns about Charles Daly
labeled guns and you will soon know that guns sold by Charles Daly were of the
highest quality. Daly guns were made by
several gunmaking firms, but none are more sought after than the “Prussian Dalys”,
this one built by J.P. Sauer in 1932. The
beauty of these Prussian Daly guns cannot be understated. Just look at the sculpted frame and breech
balls, the detail in the engraving, the scalloped action, the perfect wood to
metal fit, the finely checkered raised side panels with superb checkering and
gorgeous French walnut stock. Even the
safety button is a work of art! This gun
has class that is not found in today's gun world until you hit guns costing 5
times as much as this one. Even the
forend latch plate is perfection demonstrated.
THE WOOD, BARRELS, ACTION, AND TRIGGER GUARD REMAIN IN FACTORY ORIGINAL,
UNTOUCHED CONDITION, the action still showing 75% factory case color, clear
sharp English scroll engraving with shaded background, perfect screws, and
elegant sculpting. The 26” KRUPP STEEL
barrels retain 97% of their original blue, have no dents or dings, bores are
mirror shiny, lettering and rib matting sharp as new, dolls head rib extension
perfectly mated to the action, choked M/F with factory 2 ¾” chambers, ribs are
tight, and they fit tight on the hinge pin and breech face. The wood is finely figured French walnut,
still retaining most of its original hand-rubbed oil finish and clean, sharp,
finely cut checkering showing little wear from use. We installed a gorgeous leather covered pad
as a finishing touch of elegance. The
leather covered pad is easy on the eye, and has the perfect blend of easy
mounting and good “stick” to the shoulder.
The wood-to-metal fit is superb and there are no cracks or repairs. The mechanics are in perfect working order,
with strong well-timed ejectors, crisp triggers, tight lock up. This amazing gun has 7 locking points
including a hidden Greener cross bolt, dolls head rib extension, barrel lug
through the bottom of the action, double underlug bites, and sideclips. All these features keep the barrels tightly
mated to the action during the firing sequence.
This Daly is a VFI CERTIFIED GUN WITH A 90 DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY, the
action and forend iron having been stripped to the smallest part, all
Ultrasonic cleaned, each part inspected for function and integrity, lubricated
and reassembled (a $325 service in our shop).
At 6lbs. 14oz. and balanced nicely 3/16” forward of the hinge pin, this
gun is a delight in hand and would make for an easy carry all day afield. Weight forward barrels negate any issues with
barrel length when considering handling characteristics, and the M/F chokes are
perfect for your western birds and late season grouse (spreader loads will make
it pattern as IC/M, for closer work).
What a pheasant gun this would make!
The Prussian Daly guns are an extremely good value…one of the finest
made guns money can buy, and we have priced this gun to be affordable to most
any gunner that wants to chase birds and clays with a little romance and a lot
of class! Thanks for looking.
